Water jet laser processing is a method that uses water as a medium to transmit laser to the processing point for laser machining. One side of the pure aluminum, which is a highly reflective material, has been treated with PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition), raising concerns about adverse effects from back reflection during laser processing of blank cuts. In the bending process, we prevented scratches by processing while keeping the protective tape on. Although it was a challenging task due to the conditions of bending a thin aluminum sheet (t0.5) with protective tape, which makes it difficult to achieve the desired bending angle, we were able to handle it without any issues. Here is an example of a sheet metal part made from SUS304CP. We have bent small parts measuring less than 20mm into a U-shape. Despite the thickness of 1.0mm and the dimensions related to the bending area, there was a tolerance requirement of “±0.05”. By conducting test machining, we meet the dimensional tolerance of “±0.05”. Furthermore, for the U-shaped long holes with a tolerance of “±0.015”, we use laser processing. By performing blank processing with a high-precision fiber laser cutting machine dedicated to thin sheets, we finish precision holes without the need for processes like reaming or milling.
